About Jensen Kalal

I'm passionate about helping students develop the skills and mindset needed to thrive in our rapidly evolving world.

Jensen Kalal - Professional Headshot

My Background

I'm a University of Washington student studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. Growing up in the Tacoma public school system, I experienced firsthand the limitations of traditional education approaches.

My approach focuses on:

  • Teaching students how to learn effectively, not just memorize
  • Introducing technical skills early through programming and AI tools
  • Building critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Preparing students for modern academic and career demands

I specialize in tutoring pre-college students in STEM subjects, programming, and modern learning strategies.

Based in the Greater Seattle area, I'm committed to supporting local students of all ages who want to learn in a modern, effective way.

Neural Network Background

Learning in the Modern World

The educational landscape is changing rapidly. Here's how I prepare students for success in a world where AI and technology are reshaping how we learn and work.

AI as a Learning Tool

I teach students to use AI tools like ChatGPT thoughtfully and ethically. These are not shortcuts, but powerful learning multipliers that can enhance human potential.

Students learn to use AI as a collaborative partner for brainstorming, debugging code, explaining complex concepts, and generating study materials. Critical thinking and human judgment remain essential.

The focus is on asking better questions, evaluating AI responses critically, and using these tools to accelerate learning while maintaining academic integrity.

The Future of Learning

Traditional education often focuses on memorization and standardized testing. The future belongs to those who can think critically, solve complex problems, and adapt to rapidly changing technologies.

I teach students to become lifelong learners who can navigate uncertainty, collaborate effectively, and use technology as a tool for innovation rather than just consumption.

This means developing skills like computational thinking, digital literacy, and the ability to learn new tools quickly—all while maintaining strong foundational knowledge in core subjects.

Skills for the Digital Age

Beyond traditional academics, I help students develop essential skills for the modern world:

  • Programming Fundamentals: Python, JavaScript, and computational thinking
  • AI Literacy: Understanding and effectively using AI tools
  • Digital Collaboration: Working effectively in virtual environments
  • Critical Thinking: Evaluating information and solving complex problems

What This Means for Students

What I Teach

  • • Using AI to brainstorm and explore ideas
  • • Critical evaluation of AI-generated content

What I Don't Teach

  • • Using AI to complete assignments
  • • Relying on AI for all problem-solving
  • • Bypassing the learning process
